From Italian language, the name of Donnafugata is translated as " fleeing woman". There is a legend about the escape of Queen Maria Carolina, who fled from Naples and found her refuge in a town in the very center of Santa Margherita Belice valley: the same palace under the starry sky. A woman's hair swaying in the wind can also be seen on product labels. Donnafugata was established in Sicily by a family that, thanks to its passion, has been able to innovate the style and perception of Sicilian wine throughout the world. Giacomo Rallo, the fourth generation of a family with over 170 years of experience in quality wine, founded Donnafugata in 1983 together with his wife Gabriella, a pioneer of viticulture in Sicily. Today, their children José and Antonio lead the company and a team of people focused on excellence. This Sicilian family always has a festive atmosphere. During harvest time, Donnafugata arranges a nightly music festival in the vineyards. Most of the vineyards are located in the southeast of Sicily, in the area of Contessa Entellina. The grapes in Donnafugata are harvested at nights. The farm uses solar energy, which, thanks to solar panels, is converted into electricity. Also of special note is the Donnafugata website, which is considered one of the best websites among Italian winemakers!
