Giuseppe Gasco, the founder of the company, was born in Gallipoli, Puglia in 1903. He was the youngest of 9 children born from Maria and Antonio Gasco, a respected pharmacist and devout patriot.

The legendary J. Gasco decided to create his drink after a strange dream: he was in French Guiana in search of the legendary Anaconda Verde and a mysterious figure offered him an incredibly delicious drink; so he decided that he absolutely had to recreate it. Actually, Gallo-man was the nickname of Joseph "Joseph" Gasco, because he was originally from Gallipoli, who emigrated to New York in the early years of the 20th century, during Prohibition. In America, with his uncle, he clandestinely supplied the premises with alcohol and developed his tonic using the knowledge inherited from his father pharmacist to make more drinkable distillates that circulated illegally.
