Tenuta San Guido

Tenuta San Guido was established by an Italian wine producer marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta in the DOC Bolgheri in Toscana. The estate cultivates fruit from several plots around Bolgheri. The annual production is approximately 180,000 bottles. It is much better known by the name of its most famous wine Sassicaia and for years Sassicaia remained the marquis' personal wine, Mario’s son Nicolò and nephew Piero Antinori convinced him to release it commercially, starting with the 1968 vintage. Initially, there were only a few thousand bottles available, but those created a demand for more. In 1994, Sassicaia was awarded the DOC qualification (Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC), and this is the only Italian wine to be granted this privilege. Sassicaia is also classified as Indicazione Geografica Tipi. Initially ,it was a Vino da tavola. The estate also produces a second wine, Guidalberto, and a third wine, Le Difese.
