In 1995, two wine families—the famous Frescobaldi from Tuscany and Mondavi from America—decided to join forces and create a joint venture called Luce Della Vite in the Montalcino area. The innovative approach and modern technologies of the leaders of the Californian wine market, the Mondavi family, combined with centuries of winemaking experience and the traditional vision of the winemaking process of the Frescobaldi family. Both families have set themselves the task of creating one of Italy's greatest wines. It all started with the compilation of blends from the wine materials of the Frescobaldi estate in 1993 and 1994. According to the traditions of the Brunello di Montalcino zone, it was prescribed to make wines consisting of 100% Sangiovese, but the winemakers of the estate decided to combine the structure of Sangiovese and the roundness of Merlot, so Luce was created—a supertuscan wine that entered the circle of the elite of world winemaking.
