Domäne Wachau

Domane Wachau is located in the heart of one of Austria's most famous wine regions, Wachau. The Wachau Valley stretches for 30 miles along the Danube, between the towns of Krems and Melk. The history of Domane Wachau dates back to 1137. For several centuries, the winery's lands passed from hand to hand until the Starhemberg family bought most of the region's vineyards and cellars. At the beginning of the 20th century, one of the members of the family sold the land to local winemakers, who formed the Freie Weingartner Wachau Cooperative in the 1930s, renaming it Domane Wachau. 30% of the vineyards are surrounded by stone walls and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Domane Wachau produces a variety of styles, from light fruit to complex wines with great aging potential. In 1999, Domane Wachau was named Winery of the Year by Wine & Spirit magazine.
