The history of Cointreau liqueur dates back to 1849, when the brothers Adolf and Edouard-Jean Cuantro founded their own winery. The liqueur was first released in 1875 by the efforts of Edouard-Jean's son. The journey of Edouard Cuantro Jr. to the island of Curacao became a turning point for the company, from where he began to supply selected oranges and use them in making liqueur.
