This type of pasta got its name for its outward resemblance to ancient writing pens (Italian “penna”, which means pen).
It is made from high quality durum wheat flour. Short with slanted diagonal cuts. A bronze tool is used to cut the pasta. Ready in 8 minutes. It pairs well with tomato sauces, meat and fish.
The company Pastificio Rey has a centuries-old history. It was founded in the small town of San Damiano d'Asti in 1851 as a pasta shop. Over time, the company's production expanded. Currently, the area where the company is located is included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It is a region of wine-producing hills: Langhe-Roero, Monferrato. Pastificio Rey occupies 20,000 square meters area.
