The history of Hardys dates back to 1850, when the young Englishman Thomas Hardy, after a long voyage, set foot on the Australian continent with only 30 pounds in his pocket. However, Hardy quickly became rich, initially supplying meat to the gold mines, and by 1853, McLaren had planted his first vineyard in the valley. In 1878, Hardy bought McLaren's old mill and turned it into a winery. At the time, Thomas probably had no idea he was going to be the "father of South Australian winemaking." Starting his business with just 1.2 hectares of land in the early 20th century, Thomas Hardy became Australia's largest wine producer. Using the best technology in wine production and adhering to strict standards, the company produces excellent wines, including the legendary "Nottage Hill,"  "Eileen Hardy,"  and "William Hardy" series. Numerous awards, 54 of which are gold, speak of the excellent quality of the wine. In 2018, the Halliday Wine Companion named Hardys a "5-star winery," and Eileen Hardy's Chardonnay-Shiraz received 98 points.
