The history of Angostura begins with Dr. med. Johann Gottlieb Benjamin Siegert. He was a curious, sharp-minded scientist who, after four years of studying and analyzing tropical plants, created a unique herbal balm (bitter) that he called "Amargo Aromatico". He began to use it for medicinal purposes, first in the family circle, and then in the hospital. Thanks to its amazing healing properties, the bitter quickly became famous, first in Angostura, and later around the world. Already in 1830, Dr. Siegert exported the unique "Amargo Aromatico" to England and Trinidad, and by 1850 retired in order to concentrate on the production of bitter, since by that time the demand far exceeded the supply. In 1870, the balm (bitter) from Angostura, thanks to the efforts of Carlos Siegert, gained international fame. Later, the company significantly expanded its range, and its bitters began to be used not only for medical purposes but also as a component of many alcoholic cocktails.
